Due to recent CDC guidelines, the 2020 Newport Rhode Races will now be held Virtually

We want to show that the runners won’t be discouraged or held down by the Coronavirus.  We wish to model healthy behavior and celebrate our community. We will be coming together to show that running isn’t just about PRs and barricades, but celebrating and supporting each other even in the toughest of times.  The Virtual Race will allow you to run the distance, earn the medal (full and half marathon) and shirt, have posted results complete with a finisher certificate - all to preserve the basics of the race.

Despite current concerns with Covid-19, it is still encouraged to go outside, get fresh air and exercise for your physical and mental well-being, as long as safety protocols are followed.  You are welcomed to head outdoors and complete your distance, but you can also submit your run from a treadmill if you wish to stay inside.

Additionally, we are encouraging our participants to join in the virtual option as we will send them their shirts, medals, bibs and therefore minimize what could potentially cause a great deal of waste considering all of the events worldwide that are now canceled.  As medals and shirts are often mementos and symbols of race memories and accomplishments, these items will certainly have a great amount of significance and memories as this time in our lives is, if nothing else, memorable. We would rather these items go to "good homes" and you have something to remember this crazy time.

You can run your course at your own speed and start and finish whenever you wish.  You don’t even have to run it on 4/18 - run any course on any day on your own schedule and safety.

We will have a virtual party with it!  Let’s go “viral”

We are planning a vibrant, supportive and free community on Facebook and Strava where you can ask questions, share stories and compare notes on training and racing.  Working with RunNewport as well as local running coaches and physical therapists, we will have weekly raffle prizes, Q and A, educational content and challenges.

Using #2020NPTRRE, share your pictures from your virtual run, your shirt, your medal, your GPS map, your run squad (*with the proper social distancing of course!).  We will reshare, support and encourage you all. Join our Facebook group and/or Strava group.

We will show that Coronavirus won’t keep us down!

Please consider joining us as we show that RUNNING IS NOT CANCELED!

Join us in the City-by-the-Sea for this stunning marathon, half marathon and 5k.  Newport Rhode Races partners with the upcoming Annual Newport Daffodil Days Festival (April 25-May 3) to give you a true Spring Newport Experience. Our courses will pass along many of the over 1,200,000 starting to bloom around the City by the Sea. (We'll call it Dash through the Daffodils!)

The Marathon will start at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, April 18, 2020 at Easton's Beach in Newport, RI. The Half Marathon will start at 7:45 a.m. from the same location.  The 5k will follow at 8:00 am - all from the same beautiful seaside start.

Beach Mile will start at noon time, on the beach adjacent to the finish line.  It is an out and back on Easton’s Beach, finishing under the Race Arch.  As the race is on the beach, please plan for uneven surfaces, beach debris, seaweed, shells, all those wonderful items that we love about the ocean.  This will be part of the challenge of completing the course.

The marathon course is USATF certified and is a Boston Marathon Qualifier.

Please respect our native environment - STAY OFF THE DUNES, use trash receptacles, and recycle as much as possible.

Please Note: Newport Rhode Races will be happening rain or shine. Because of the logistics of planning for a race of this size, we cannot offer refunds for any reason. In the event that weather is severe enough to create an unsafe environment for participants, organizers will cancel the event with no refunds issued.
